Caring for animals was a part of my childhood. My mom helped stray dogs until their owners were found, rescued baby birds and squirrels, jumped into a lake to save a drowning fawn, and moved turtles off of the road. She saved frogs and caught spiders to relocate them outside. We spent countless hours at the local river and marsh watching the geese and ducks learning their personalities. My mom was our biggest supporter.

My mom loved her grandfeathers. Although she lived many states away, she helped her grandfeathers in endless ways. When we first brought Tito to the sanctuary, he was very sick. My mom stayed on the phone talking to him while I rushed to get what I needed to transport Tito to WSU Vet hospital. She also advised in nearly all construction efforts from converting an outbuilding to a coop to which type of hinges may work best for the doors.
Freddie was extra special to my mom. She’s shared in the passing of his first love, Ruby, to his multiple medical needs including 2 foot surgeries. She loved visiting with him and watching him waddle around the yard, play in the sprinkler and in his pools.
Our heart hurts with her passing. She will be missed beyond words.
