Welcome, Pongo and Fidget!

Friendly, active, adventurous, foragers

Rescue and life of sanctuary

TThese two 8-year-old senior ducks needed a safe place to land after their human moved into an assisted living home.  We welcomed them with open arms.  Blackbird Ranch and Farm Sanctuary picked up the boys and underwent quarantine at their sanctuary.  While we waited, we extended the duck aviary so Pongo and Fidget would have their own space.  The new space also gives up flexibility if we need to separate the boys, especially when hormones are high.

Upon arrival in September 2025, the boys immediately let us know that they loved the mud and were expert excavators!  Wherever there is water, there is mud to be made!  No water bowl stays clean, and pools are immediately used to clean muddy bills.

Pongo and Fidget are the best of friends.  Pongo is high energy and is the dominant duck, mostly. His energy level is like a kid on sugar all the time.  He is enthusiastic and excitable. Pongo wants to play and swim and run.  He wants to excavate and forage.  He is rarely still.  Pongo is always up for a good time.

Fidget is also always on the move. He is not dominant like Pongo and is typically Pongo’s sidekick. Fidget does like to be around Turtle too. We think this is because some times Pongo’s energy is a little much for Fidget, and Turtle can tame Pongo’s energy, at least for a little while. Fidget LOVES the pool. His morning routine is to go outside, find the pool, and get in. His next favorite thing is foraging. He is always on the lookout for buggies and, as such, is constantly on the move.

We are very happy to have these two elderly but energetic ducks join our family.
