Welcome Forrest!

Friendly, social, easygoing, loves humans, and energetic.

The Rescue

On August 19th, 2024, a concerned community member contacted us about a very friendly domestic duck at the local duck pond at Columbia Point Park.  Given the type of duck (Muscovy) and his friendly nature, we assumed someone dumped him off at the pond to fend for himself.  The next day, we went down to the park and easily identified the duck. Due to his social manner, we picked him up and brought him to the sanctuary.   He was the easiest rescue we have done.

Upon arriving at the sanctuary, Forrest did not show any obvious medical concerns. A follow-up veterinary visit verified he was a healthy duck with no medical problems.  After being in quarantine for 2.5 weeks, we slowly introduced Forrest to the rest of the Tumbleweed feathers.

What’s in a name?

We were able to act on rescuing Forrest so quickly as we had already raised funds to rescue a rooster who was roaming the streets of West Richland for 2-3 months.  He was named Lieutenant Dan by the animal control officer who was trying to find him a safe place to call home.  However, after we told Animal Control we could bring the rooster to the sanctuary, they were unable to find him.  In honor of Lt. Dan, we named the newest addition Forrest.  Although Lt. Dan was not found again, his memory will live on with Forrest.

Forrest the Puppyduck!

Forrest loves humans.  He has many characteristics that have resulted in us nicknaming him Puppyduck.  He wants to be with humans, he follows us, plays with toys, pants, wags his tail when he is happy, and will sit on our laps.  He is a very happy duck. Forrest has made friends and lives with our other two ducks, Freddie and Turtle.
